LEGAZPI CITY,  Philippines — Twenty cases of firecracker-related injuries were recorded in the Bicol region on New Year’s Eve, bringing the total number of cases to 36, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Based on the Fireworks-Related Injury Surveillance monitoring, a total of eight cases were recorded in Camarines Norte, 16 in Albay, and 12 in Camarines Sur from Dec. 21 to Dec. 31.

The DOH said 24 of the victims were minors, with a 3-year-old boy as the youngest who had a burn injury on his left foot due to a five-star firecracker.

Three of the victims had to undergo surgery to amputate their fingers due to severe injuries.
