Magnitude 5.8 earthquake jolts Ilocos Norte
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck a municipality in Ilocos Norte on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake occurred at 10:56 a.m. Its epicenter was located six kilometers (km) northwest of Bangui, Ilocos Norte.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 10 km, Phivolcs added.
The state seismologist also warned of aftershocks although no significant damage is expected.
On Sunday, Phivolcs reported two consecutive earthquakes hitting two Ilocos Norte towns.
Article continues after this advertisementThe first was a magnitude 3.7 earthquake recorded east of Burgos at 5:34 a.m., followed by a magnitude 3.8 quake that struck east of Pasuquin at 5:40 a.m.
