DepEd gets highest 2025 budget

MANILA, Philippines — The education sector has been allocated the largest portion of the 2025 General Appropriations Act budget, with funding amounting to P1.055 trillion.

It was followed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) with P1.007 trillion.

The budget for the education and public works sectors recently stirred discussion among lawmakers due to claims that the bicameral conference committee’s version of the proposed budget supposedly gave more funds to the DPWH than the education sector.

Under Article XIV, Section 5 of the Constitution, the government must “assign the highest budgetary priority to education and ensure that teaching will attract and retain its rightful share of the best available talents through adequate remuneration and other means of job satisfaction and fulfillment.”

Below is the list of the eight remaining sectors with the highest budget allocation for 2025:

  • Defense – P315.1 billion
  • Interior and local government – P279.1 billion
  • Health – P267.8 billion
  • Agriculture – P237.4 billion
  • Social welfare – P217.5 billion
  • Transportation – P123.7 billion
  • Judiciary – P64 billion
  • Labor and employment – P39.5 billion
  • Justice – P42.2 billion
