Magnitude 4.1 tremor hits Quezon island town

LUCENA CITY — A magnitude 4.1 earthquake was recorded on the island town of Jomalig in Quezon province on Saturday, Dec. 28.

The Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tectonic tremor hit 82-km northeast of the municipality with a depth of 10 kilometers at 10:49 a.m.

The Phivolcs said they were not expecting damage or aftershocks from the earthquake.

Jomalig is located in the eastern part of the Polilio island group in northern Quezon facing the Pacific Ocean. It is the smallest and farthest island municipality of the province.

Occasional tremors often jolt the island.

On Sept. 4, 10 successive tremors struck Jomalig with the strongest logged at 5.6-magnitude. All earthquakes were of tectonic origin.
