Aguelo knocks out Tubigon in M’due

ADONIS “TI YAMAGATA” Aguelo scored an impressive fourth-round knockout win over Gadwin Tubigon in the main event of a fight card held at the Mandaue Cultural and Sports Complex last Saturday.

Aguelo, who fights out of the TI Cebu Gym of Mandaue City, bagged the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) featherweight belt with the victory.

Aguelo finished Tubigon off with hard hooks to the body that downed him in the fourth. Referee Teddy Alivio reached the count of ten at the 1:20 mark..

Aguelo’s edge in the power department became evident in the fourth round when a stiff right uppercut and a right hook sent Tubigon reeling into the ropes.

Trainer Brix Flores told philboxing.com that Japanese promoter and boxing patron Akira Sato plans to stage a WBO Oriental title bout for Aguelo in Cebu sometime in August.

Aguelo’s stablemate Gerpaul “TI Yamagata” Valero also won by technical knockout in the second round against Michael Bastasa.

A three-punch combination sent Bastasa down in round one. In the second, Valero fired a sharp left hook that sent Bastasa reeling towards his corner, prompting referee Ben Necesario to stop the contest at the 1:02 mark.

Jason Egera, meanwhile, beat Edison Serrano by TKO in the 2:32 mark of the second round. TI Yamagata “Dodong” Masashi of Japan won by TKO against Jaime Bermiso in another bout while Jayvee Galea edged Roel Sumabong by unanimous decision.
