Magnitude 4.8 quake jolts parts of Negros Occidental

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.8 earthquake jolted parts of Negros Occidental and nearby areas Tuesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs reported that the earthquake, which struck at 3:37 p.m., was tectonic in nature with a depth of 32 kilometers deep.
Its epicenter was traced some 3 kilometers northwest of Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental.
The following areas experienced the following reported intensities, which are measured by how people felt the earthquake and the damage to their surroundings:
Intensity V (Strong)
- Hinoba-an in Negros Occidental
Intensity III (Weak)
- San Jose de Buenavista in Antique
- Hamtic in Antique
- City of Iloilo
- City of Sipalay in Negros Occidental
Intensity II (Slightly Felt)
- Sibulan, Negros Occidental
Meanwhile, the following instrumental intensities, which are measured by an intensity scale, were experienced in the following areas:
Instrumental Intensity IV
- City of Sipalay in Negros Occidental
Instrumental Intensity III
- San Jose de Buenavista in Antique
Instrumental Intensity I
- City of Canlaon in Negros Oriental
Phivolcs said no damage or aftershocks are expected.
