DAVAO CITY, Philippines —The Police Regional Office (PRO) in Davao Region welcomed 400 new police recruits on Monday.

The new recruits took their oath before Police Brig. Gen. Leon Victor Rosete, PRO-Region 11 director, in ceremonies held at the parade grounds of Camp Quintin Merecido, the regional police headquarters in this city.

The new police officers with a rank of patrolman or patrolwoman and who will receive a salary of P29,688 a month aside from allowances and other noncash benefits, will still undergo months of training for public safety basic recruit course at the PRO 11’s Regional Training Center here.

According to Rosete, 80 of the new recruits are women. They form part of the PRO 11’s attrition program quota for 2024.

In his speech, Rosete told the recruits that they were joining a “long line of heroes who have chosen a career of public service in one of the most honorable and noble professions.”

“However, I will not sugarcoat my next words: the journey you will embark on will take a lot of hard work. You will face months of intensive and extensive physical and mental challenges that will make you learn a lot of tough lessons and understand what it means to sacrifice for duty, for God and for the country,” he added.

Remember the creed

He also reminded them “to always remember the police officers’ creed, the pledge to love and serve God, country and people; but most of all, to “uphold the Constitution and obey the legal orders of the duty constituted authorities.”

He also asked them to maintain a high degree of morality and professionalism and to set themselves as an example to others.

Rosete said the 400 new recruits were a sight to see.

“From these ranks will rise the future commanders and leaders of PRO 11, so let’s work together, you’re the new generation of policemen, upon your shoulders rest the future of our communities,” said Rosete.

He urged all of them to help each other and survive the training.

“Always do the right thing, and I’m sure you’ll not get lost,” added Rosete, who also once served as the chief recruitment officer of the Philippine National Police in 2006-2008. —Germelina Lacorte
