MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has recorded a total contraband seizure value of P81 billion as of December 2024, nearly doubling its figures from the previous year.

The BOC tallied a total haul of P43.29 billion in 2023.

According to BOC Intelligence Office Alvin Enciso, over half of the seizure value came from Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service – Manila International Container Port (CIIS-MICP), with P55 billion worth of seized contraband items.

“Among these were illegal drugs, vape products, frozen mackerel, luxury vehicles, general merchandise, used clothing, fake items, and agricultural products, among others,” Enciso enumerated in a statement.

BOC Director Verne Enciso likewise noted the significant increase in the bureau’s seized item value since 2022.

“From 729 seizures worth P24 billion in 2022, we have now, in 2024, achieved an astounding 1,537 seizures with a total value of PhP81 billion — and counting,” Enciso said during a command conference on Wednesday, December 11.

With this, BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio called on intelligence group officials to “sustain their momentum” as they strive for continued success in the bureau.

“Good governance and effective measures against illicit trade have strengthened the organization’s collaborative efforts, enhanced border security, and facilitated smoother trade processes,” Rubio stated.

“I encourage you to build upon your progress and conclude the year with renewed dedication as we gear up for more years of excellence,” he concluded.
