Manila Water Foundation recently inaugurated family sanitation facilities in Sitio Sapang Munti within the Ipo Watershed: a crucial water source located in Norzagaray, Bulacan.
In partnership with the MWSS and Janji, a US-based sports apparel company, Manila Water Foundation completed its commitment to provide the first 30 family sanitation facilities for the community living in the critical watershed.
The family sanitation facilities will be for the benefit of more than 500 adults and children and will prevent raw water contamination for millions of households and businesses in Metro Manila who rely on this major source of raw water supply.
Manila Water Foundation chose to hand over the family sanitation facilities during the celebration of World Toilet Day with the theme “Toilets: A Place for Peace.”
The family sanitation facilities’ safe and secure toilets will prevent further incidences of raw water contamination, protect the environment, and uphold the dignity of families, especially young girls and women.
Sitio Sapang Munti Chieftain Renato Santos expressed his gratitude to Manila Water Foundation and its partners for the valuable gift of health for the community: after providing a potable water system, they now have the properly designed and safe toilets they had long wished for.
Representing the MWSS, Environment and Forest Specialist Ms. Azyleah Abino urged the community to protect the watershed by keeping their surroundings clean and encouraged the parents to start teaching young children how to use the toilet.
Before the turnover of facilities, the MWF team gave a session on proper sanitation at home and in the community as well as reminders on the steps to proper handwashing.
PHILUSA Corporation, Manila Water Foundation’s valued product partner, generously provided sanitation products such as bottles of Albatross toilet bowl cleaner, Gleam liquid sosa, Albatross deodorizer, and Ansell hand gloves.
The event concluded with the WASH Group of community leaders in Sitio Sapang Munti, renewing their pledge of stewardship of ensuring a clean Ipo Watershed – a critical, major water source for millions of homes, businesses, and industries in Metro Manila.
