DOH: Flu-like cases fall 17% in PH, but rise seen in 6 regions

MANILA, Philippines — The cases of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) have continued to decline nationwide in the past 11 months compared to the same period last year, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Tuesday.

According to a statement, DOH recorded 165,992 ILI cases as of November 30, 2024, which was 17 percent lower than the 200,525 cases recorded within the same period last year.

Furthermore, 7,571 ILI cases were reported from November 3 to 16, lower than the 7,971 cases recorded from October 20 to November 2. There were also 3,710 cases logged from November 17 to 30.

However, the DOH pointed out that despite the decline of cases nationwide, a rise in cases was seen in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao from November 3 to 30 with 1,445 new cases.

The health agency said that the efforts of the regional offices, health facilities, and local government units were significant in making the ILI cases nationwide manageable.

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa underscored the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices to prevent the spread of ILI.

“With the Amihan season in full swing and the holidays fast approaching, we strongly encourage the proper use of face masks, observing cough etiquette, and staying at home when experiencing symptoms,” Herbosa said in the same statement.

“Consult your nearest primary care physician and inquire about flu vaccination for yourselves and your families,” he added.
