LEGAZPI CITY — Classes in some towns in Albay province were suspended due to heavy rains caused by the Intertropical Convergence Zone and the Shear line on Monday.
Acting Gov. Baby Glenda Bongao said local governments may order the suspension of in-person classes and implement alternative learning modality.
Classes at all levels were suspended in Camalig, Guinobatan, Sto. Domingo, Bacacay, Pio Duran, Malilipot, Polangui towns, and Legazpi City.
In Daraga town, only the classes from kindergarten to grade 12 were suspended.
Bongao advised the local officials to remain vigilant and monitor the areas prone to flooding, landslides, and lahar flow.
The village officials were also urged to monitor the river conditions and prohibit residents from crossing swelling rivers.
In the 8 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said moderate to heavy rains were affecting Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, and Sorsogon.
Pagasa advised the local disaster risk management offices to monitor weather conditions. INQ
