MANILA, Philippines — Authorities have arrested Marawi City Vice Mayor Anwar Romuros, also known as Anouar Abedin Romuros Abdulrauf, over a 2013 murder and attempted murder case.
In a statement, the National Bureau of Investigation said it took Romuros into custody at the Marawi City justice hall on Monday with the help of members of the Philippine Army’s 103rd Infantry, Task Force Marawi and Task Force Oro of Cagayan de Oro City.
Romuros was arrested based on a warrant issued by a Caloocan City regional trial court.
This was after he was positively identified by a witness as one of those involved in the killing of Latip Sultan while the NBI’s Counter Intelligence Division was serving a search warrant over drug-related violations in Tala, Caloocan City, in 2013.
“Operatives were already implementing the search warrant when a group of armed individuals led by the subject (Abdulrauf) opened fire at the operatives, killing the victim and wounding others,” the NBI said. —Gillian Villanueva
