MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reminded the armed forces to always uphold international law and build better coordination with other nations in defending the Philippine territorial waters.

In his speech during the oath-taking ceremony of the newly promoted Armed Forces of the Philippines generals and flag officer on Wednesday, Marcos stressed that the armed personnel bear the “solemn responsibility” of ensuring the security of the country’s land, seas, skies, and even cyberspace.

“After all, the stars on your shoulders signify the responsibilities you now carry—the trust of the Filipino people, the security of our nation, and the future of generations yet to come,” he said.

The President also recognized the AFP’s achievements, particularly in responding to the victims of the recent typhoons.

Marcos further committed that this administration will remain as the AFP’s steadfast partner in upholding the rule of law.

“Mabigat man ang inyong sinumpaang tungkulin; marami mang hamon ang kailangang harapin; makakaasa kayo na ang buong bansa ay kasama ninyo—nagdadasal para sa inyong kaligtasan, sumusuporta sa inyong mga hakbang, at umaasang maglilingkod kayo nang may katapatan sa ating bayan,” he said.
