MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed two flood control projects in Central Luzon, the agency announced.
Two protective slope structures worth a total of P96.8 million were finished by the DPWH to redirect floodwater away from residential areas in Casiguran, Aurora; and to protect farming lands in Ramos, Tarlac.

The project in Aurora province spans 266.10 meters with grouted riprap, ramps with concrete pavement and sheet piles, costing P49 million.
DPWH Central Luzon Regional Director Roseller Tolentino said, “This project was carefully designed to provide a durable defense against the heavy rainfall and overflow from nearby rivers that frequently threaten the area.”

Meanwhile, DPWH touted the P47.8-million Tarlac project’s earthworks, bank and slope protection work, drainage system, earth works and surface courses.

“An integral component of this design is the hydraulic gate to effectively control water flow within the system, ensuring improved water distribution across the area,” Tolentino explained in a statement on Tuesday.
The Aurora project began construction in March 2023, while the Tarlac project was funded under the 2024 national budget.
