MANILA, Philippines – Philippine politics has long been a spectacle, and TV host CJ Hirro’s latest Peanut Gallery Media Network episode doesn’t just shine a spotlight on it—it tears through the noise with searing clarity.

Hirro characterized it as a chaotic political system, driven by endless scandals, questionable leadership, and an audience captivated by the drama. With unfiltered commentary, she delivers sharp criticism of the nation’s leaders and institutions, painting a picture of a system stuck in a relentless cycle of dysfunction.

“Philippine politics is historically disappointing and insanely disgusting,” Hirro opens, setting the tone for her blunt critique. She highlights how the system consistently outdoes itself in absurdity, driven by “our proclivity toward dumb teledramas and even dumber politicians.” Elections may come and go, but the political noise never seems to end. Campaign season simply transitions to the next act in the nation’s never-ending soap opera.

The latest drama? The unraveling of the Bongbong Marcos-Sara Duterte partnership. Touted as a “power duo” in 2022, the tandem has now hit a very public breaking point. Hirro pulls no punches, describing it as a failed “political love team” that couldn’t sustain itself. “Political libido can bring two together, but not for long,” she quips, leaving voters stuck watching the President and Vice President go at each other “like we did not mind and we did not matter.”

Hirro’s criticism doesn’t stop there. She calls out the Congress, the Senate, and even the media for allowing the holy institutions to be used and even take active roles in the elevation of the drama. She dismisses the ongoing Duterte drug war hearings as performative, questioning the need for them when existing courts could address the issues. The anchor reminded everyone that the tactics did not work against president-elect Donald Trump in the recently-concluded US presidential election.

Despite her cutting remarks, Hirro made it clear that her criticism comes from a place of frustration and concern. She candidly shares that even though she did not vocally support the Marcos-Duterte tandem in 2022, she believed it was the best choice at the time. But witnessing the current state of governance has left her deeply disillusioned. Speaking as both a mother and a citizen, she said she’s had enough of the excuses and political theatrics.

To President Marcos, her message is straightforward: “Your passiveness is your weakness.” Hirro challenged the President to step up—as a leader and a father to the nation.

To Vice President Duterte, her words are even more direct: “Shut the eff up.”

“You know this game,” Hirro tells Sara, “You grew up learning this game…Take a step back. Be calm.”

Hirro wraps up her fiery commentary with a challenge to Filipinos: to demand better and refuse to be complicit in the chaos. “Let the political flies finish off the mess—and hopefully themselves,” she says with characteristic candor.
