MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. on Friday reiterated his administration’s “unwavering support” for local manufacturers and producers to ensure food security in the country.

Marcos made the pronouncement during the inauguration of the Universal Robina Corporation (URC) flour plant in Sariaya, Quezon.

“We reaffirm our unwavering support for local manufacturers and producers, especially in the vital food and beverage sector,” said Marcos in  his speech.

“This administration acknowledges the critical role you play in advancing our socio-economic growth—boosting farm productivity, supporting MSMEs, and ensuring our nation’s food security,” he added.

He committed to continuing to create a “supportive environment” for the private sector through laws and agreements that promote the interests of both manufacturers and consumers.

Meanwhile, Marcos also hailed URC for its newly inaugurated Sariaya plant, which has a capacity to mill 3,500 tons of flour per day.

“With this new plant, the URC has positioned itself as a key player in our nation’s food security, driving economic stability and innovation,” said Marcos.

According to Marcos, the facility symbolizes the government and the private sector’s “shared responsibility” to build a stronger future and resolve the flour production gap in the country.
