MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday issued a subpoena to Vice President Sara Duterte regarding her alleged assassination threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
In the subpoena dated November 25, Duterte was commanded to appear before the NBI Main Office in Pasay City at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 29.
She was asked to present evidence on the investigation of alleged grave threats under Article 282 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Section 6 of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (Republic Act No, 10175).
The document further stated that Duterte might have violated the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 (RA 11479).
Duterte has the right to be assisted by a counsel of her choice, the subpoena read.
Meanwhile, Justice Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez also disclosed during a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing the issuance of a subpoena to Duterte.

“The personnel of the National Bureau of Investigation arrived at the Office of the Vice President to serve the subpoena to Vice President Sara Duterte in connection with her alleged assassination threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez,” Gutierrez said.
Duterte might face libel, defamation, or grave threats charges because of her statements. Authorities are also considering filing a disbarment case against the vice president, she added.
Last Saturday, Duterte said during an online press conference that she had instructed someone to assassinate Marcos, his wife, and Romualdez.

“I already talked to someone. I told the person, ‘If they kill me, kill BBM, Liza Araneta, and Martin Romualdez.’ No joke, no joke. I’ve left instructions,” Duterte said in Filipino.
Malacañang has tagged Duterte’s pronouncement as an “active threat.”
However, Duterte on Monday claimed that her statement was only “maliciously taken out of logical context.”
