MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4 earthquake struck a town in Surigao del Sur on Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake was located east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur and occurred at 10:31 a.m.
The tremor, which was tectonic in origin, had a shallow depth of 16 kilometers.
It was connected to a magnitude 7.4 Surigao del Sur earthquake on December 2, 2023, which recorded almost 3,000 aftershocks.
“This is an aftershock of the 2023 December 02 Mw7.4 Offshore Surigao del Sur earthquake event,” Phivolcs’ bulletin read.

No damage or additional aftershocks are expected from this event.
