MANILA, Philippines—In an unexpected move, officials of the National ROTC Alumni Association Inc. (Naraa) on Friday assured President Benigno Aquino III of their support against attempts to destabilize his administration.
The President was guest of honor during the 17th national convention of the Naraa, which claims to comprise 70 percent of the Armed Forces officers corps.
In its “manifesto of support” read by Naraa national chair retired Commodore Amado Sanglay, the group pledged “to stand against any deliberate attempt to destabilize the national leadership that will only redound to political instability, socio-political and economic decay, thus hampering the nation’s sustained national development, growth and progress.
Naraa, which also includes veterans, retirees and reservists, went on to “reject any and all forms of actions that will divide our people, tending to destroy the good image of the country and negatively affect the positive gains that the President has accomplished through honest and effective administration.”
After the convention held in Camp Aguinaldo, the President had a closed-door meeting with Naraa officers at the AFP Commissioned Officers’ Club (AFPCOC).
