MANILA, Philippines — Police Regional Office 7 Director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin is the new chief of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
In a special order on Friday, Nov. 22, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil designated Aberin as NCRPO Acting Regional Director effective Nov. 23.
Aberin served as the Central Visayas police chief since his appointment in March 2023.

He succeeds Maj. Gen. Sidney Hernia, who is on administrative relief and under investigation following issues on the NCRPO’s raid on an alleged scam hub in Manila.

Hernia was accused of extorting foreign nationals apprehended during the operation, an allegation he denied in a statement on November 5.

The 10-day relief order for Hernia took effect on Nov. 7 and was prolonged to Nov. 22 as the investigation led by Deputy Chief for Operations Lt. Gen. Michael John Dubria was expected to wrap up.
Hernia only became NCRPO chief last Oct. 9.
Marbil’s order on Friday also reassigned Hernia to the Area Police Command for Southern Luzon effective starting Saturday, Nov. 23.
