Group to launch travelling photo exhibit

In celebration of the 75th charter anniversary of Cebu City, Hambin will launch Pistaym: Photos from the American period in Cebu today at 5 p.m. at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel in Lahug, Cebu City.

After the launch, the exhibit will travel around schools in Cebu City starting June.

The photo exhibit will feature 75 vintage and (some) never-before-seen photos of Cebu during the American colonial period. The 75 photos is a tribute to Cebu City’s 75th anniversary as a chartered city.

The travelling photo exhibit will create a heritage awareness among Cebuanos especially the younger generation (mostly with smartphones and other gadgets) who need to be educated in history and heritage.

The exhibit integrates technology and history by using quick response (QR) codes in providing ready-to-access historical and archival information through QR code-delivered photo captions, digital multi-media and e-book.

The project aims to raise the historical awareness and pride of place of the Cebuanos, especially students, showcase the integration of technology and history in information sharing, highlights the importance of wireless digital technology in the development of education, culture and tourism, generate public interest in the QR code as a tool for ready-to-access, high-speed and fast-readable information and sustain heritage preservation work and education through digital preservation of photos and information in e-book and other applications.

The photos come from the collection of Uytingchua family.

Smart Communications Inc., Marco Polo Residences, Downtown Revitalization Project of the Cebu city government and FF Sibi Enterprises are the partners for Pistaym. The event is by invitation only.

“The partnership is Hambin’s way of broadening the avenue of heritage awareness among Cebuanos,” said Boboi Costas, Hambin president.

Hambin is the only SEC-registered heritage advocacy group in Cebu. It is composed of the pioneering graduates of the University of San Carlos Graduate Certificate in Cebuano Heritage Course.
