Authorities finally dismantled a huge advertising billboard on C-5 Road in Makati City, a structure that had stood there without a license since 2009.
Oden Domingo of the Makati City Engineering Office said the city government would file a case against the steel frame’s owner, Adpact Corp., and the owner of the property where the structure was built.
The billboard was located on the service road of C-5 in Barangay (village) Pembo in front of Market! Market! mall.
City engineers and a team from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority tore down the structure on Thursday, after serving notice to Adpact on May 3.
“We were compelled to demolish and confiscate the materials on the site because Adpact failed to heed our notices. We asked them to stop building their illegal structure in 2009 but they never did anything,” Domingo explained.
A brief commotion erupted after a man claiming to represent Adpact tried to stop the dismantling of the billboard, Domingo said.
Domingo said Adpact and the property owner, one Alma Rahjal, could be cited for violation of the National Building Code and the city-wide moratorium on the setup of ad billboards.
The moratorium was enforced in 2004 to regulate the number of billboards in the country’s financial capital.—Miko Morelos
