Magnitude 5.2 earthquake strikes Batanes

IBAYAT, Batanes — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck Batanes on Monday morning (Nov. 18), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake hit the province at 11:35 a.m. Its epicenter was traced some 8 kilometers northeast of the capital town of Basco.

The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 10 km, according to Phivolcs.

Phivolcs said no damage was expected, but aftershocks were likely to occur. INQ
