Satellite connections established in CamSur amid threat of Pepito

LIGAO CITY – The provincial government of Camarines Sur has activated satellite connections across all local government units (LGUs) to ensure uninterrupted communication as Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) threatens the Bicol region.

Second District Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte said his son, Camarines Sur Gov. Vincenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte, deployed Starlink satellite technology to all 35 municipalities and Naga City since Wednesday, November 13.

“The main goal is to maintain open and uninterrupted communication before, during, and after the typhoon,” Villafuerte told Inquirer in a Viber message Saturday, November 16.

He said the initiative aims to empower local officials to effectively coordinate disaster response and address the needs of their communities during the typhoon’s onslaught.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported that more than 15,000 families previously displaced by Severe Tropical Storm “Kristine” (international name: Trami) in October have been relocated to designated evacuation centers, including facilities at the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, Governor Mariano Villafuerte Community Colleges, and the Capitol Complex, all in Pili town.

The provincial government has prepositioned relief goods, including food and other essentials, to ensure the welfare of evacuees.

“Our priority is to make sure that affected families across the province have access to the resources they need during this difficult time,” Villafuerte added.
