LIST: Nika prompts class suspensions for Nov 12
MANILA, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Nika (international name: Toraji) prompted class suspensions in various parts of the country on Tuesday, November 12.
Based on the state weather bureau’s 5 a.m. bulletin, Nika was last spotted 185 kilometers (km) west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center and gusts of up to 115 kph.
Nika continues to weaken as it moves northwestward at 30 kph over the West Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Six areas in Northern Luzon were also placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 due to Nika, Pagasa added.
