Marquez denies rumors of special SC session on impeachment

MANILA, Philippines—Supreme Court Spokesman and Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez denied rumors the high court is set to hold a special en banc session on Tuesday, the day the impeachment court is expected to release its verdict on Chief Justice Renato Corona’s trial.

“That is not true. No session on Tuesday,” Marquez said at a text message.

Marquez said the high court is on a recess and session will resume only next month.

Text messages circulated Friday morning alleging that the high tribunal would hold a special session on to tackle the petition filed by Corona early this year asking the court to stop the proceedings and nullify his impeachment.

The petition said that the complaint which was “riddled with constitutional defects too numerous to withstand even cursory legal scrutiny.”

Corona inhibited from the case.

A special en banc session is being called by the Chief Justice only when necessary.
