Man hacked to death

A 42-YEAR-OLD man was hacked to death by his friend’s neighbor in barangay Maravilla, Tabuelan town, northern Cebu.

Dobelio Calinawan died on the spot. He sustained severe hack wounds all over the body and his head was almost severed.

A charge of murder was filed yesterday against the suspect, Conrado Mahusay, 48, who was arrested by police after the incident.

Mahusay told police that he attacked Calinawan because the man previously challenged him to a fight. He said Calinawan went to the barangay to kill him.

Police are investigating Mahusay’s claims.

Insp. Manuel Masong, chief of the Tabuelan, said it was the first time Calinawan went to the barangay and the two men didn’t know each other.

Police said that upon the invitation of his friend, Calinawan went to sitio Kan-ambay for a vacation last Wednesday. He was sitting on a sofa inside the house of Ricardo Salazar when Mahusay suddenly barged in around 11 a.m. and attacked Calinawan with a bolo.

Calinawan ran and shouted for help but Mahusay cornered him and slashed the victim’s neck.

Salazar said he and his wife tried to stop Mahusay to no avail.
