MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has activated a new unit to enhance the intelligence capabilities of the organization, according to its spokesperson, Col. Francel Margareth Padilla.
Padilla on Wednesday said the AFP Intelligence Command unit started operating last August.
“The AFP Intelligence Command was activated on August 21 to enhance the nation’s intelligence capabilities in response to evolving security challenges. This renewed establishment addresses the pressing need for a more adaptive and efficient intelligence,” she told reporters in a message.
When asked about the specific functions of the new unit or why it was created, Padilla opted not to give details. She only said it focuses on “enhancing coordination across all intelligence units to ensure a unified approach to emerging threats.”
