MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is ready to assist in the preemptive evacuation of residents in communities forecast to be affected by Tropical Storm Marce (international name: Yinxing).
PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil had already instructed them to gear up for Marce’s impact.
“As we speak po tuloy tuloy yung coordination ng PNP sa mga local government units particularly doon sa mga areas na expected na tatamaan ng bagyo,” Fajardo said in a press conference on Monday.
(As we speak, the coordination between PNP and LGUs, particularly those in Marce’s track, is continuous.)
“Ang PNP po ay ready to provide the necessary police assistance kung magkakaroon ng preemtive evacuation to make sure na magiging minimal yung magiging effect po nitong paparating na bagyo,” she added.
(The PNP is ready to provide the necessary police assistance, especially if there’s a preemptive evacuation to minimize the effect of the incoming storm.)
According to the state weather bureau, Marce was last located some 775 kilometers (km) east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, carrying maximum sustained winds of 75 km per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph while moving west-northwest at 35 kph.
It is expected to make landfall in the Babuyan Islands. Marce is also forecast to intensify from a tropical storm to a severe tropical storm by Tuesday.
