GREEN and blue clash once more on the golf course as the 11th staging of the La Salle-Ateneo Golf Classic Cebu will be held outside of Cebu for the first time on July 6 and 7 at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club in Marapara, Bacolod City.
The tournament is being hosted this year by the Cebu chapter of the One La Salle Alumni Association and the event was launched in sublime fashion yesterday at the Cebu Country Club. Present during the launch were La Salle’s Bobby Martinez and Dave Caramihan and Ateneo’s Toby Florendo and Jovi Neri.
The competition will be two-days to play with only the best score counting. There will be a total of 100 points with the team garnering the most to be declared the champion. So far, La Salle has won only once against Ateneo in the 10 times that they have played but is hopeful that the change in venue will increase its chances this year.
“Hopefully with the tournament being done in Bacolod, we can win this one. The rivalry is there but the friendship is even prevalent,” said Caramihan, who added that for the first time, the competition will have a theme which is “Green or Blue, It Is Our Time to Shine Together.”
There will be six divisions that will be played namely, divisions A, B and C, Open, Sponsor and Special. The gross champion will net 10 points; the net, seven points; the first runner-up will gain five while the second runner-up will earn three points.
“We’ve exhausted all of the golf courses here in Cebu. Moving to Bacolod will have more people becoming aware of this tournament,” said Neri. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
