BACOLOD CITY—A 24-year-old woman confessed to having killed her two children on Monday in a case that baffles police in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental province.
Mira Lacson is now detained at the Hinigaran police station after admitting she killed her children aged 1 and 3 by strangling them.
Police Officer 3 Ma. Victorina Oychocde, chief of the Hinigaran police women and children’s complaint desk, quoted Lacson as saying she buried the children’s bodies in a sugarcane field.
Hours after Lacson’s arrest, a search led by village watchmen led to the bodies of the two children, both girls.
Oychocde said Lacson faces two counts of parricide.
The police officer quoted Lacson as complaining of verbal abuse she suffered from her mother though it wasn’t clear if that was the reason Lacson killed her two children.
Lacson, Oychocde said, had been accused of child neglect by her mother.
In an interview with a radio station here, Lacson’s father had been quoted as saying his daughter lived a troubled life hanging out with drug users.
The father, who refused to give his first name during the radio interview, said he could not believe, though, that his daughter was capable of killing her children.
The father said he was unaware, too, if his daughter suffered from any mental illness.
