MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Thursday directed its attached agencies to ensure that all sea vessels are seaworthy before venturing into the sea as the government expects an influx of travelers during the commemoration of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day or Undas.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista made the pronouncement after conducting an inspection at the Manila North Port Harbor just a day before the traditional commemoration of Undas.

“We always tell the [Philippine] Coast Guard to make sure the inspections on vessels are correct and sea worthy,” Bautista said in a mix of Filipino and English.

Apart from the PCG, Bautista said he also directed the Office for Transportation Security and Philippine Ports Authority to secure the vessels for the safety of passengers.
