2 fires hit Tacloban City

TACLOBAN CITY — Two fire incidents broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, Oct. 30, while a power outage left the city in darkness.

The first incident occurred in a densely populated area of Barangay 62-A in the Sagkahan district around 1:29 a.m., followed by a second blaze in the V&G Subdivision at 1:57 a.m., according to Tacloban City Fire Director Chief Inspector Anthony de Paz.

No injuries were reported in both incidents.

While investigations are ongoing, authorities suspect that a lighted candle might have caused the fire in Barangay 62-A.

This incident burned 14 homes, originating from the residence of Pio Pagador, who reported losing all his belongings.

“We were awakened by the fire, and we just ran out,” Pagador said.

In V&G Subdivision, one house, owned by Rayzel Eval, was razed.

Damage in both fires was pegged at P800,000.

The fire incidents happened when a citywide blackout struck at around 11 p.m..

Power was restored past 3 a.m. on Wednesday.
