13-year-old boy drowns in Batangas river

LUCENA CITY — A 13-year-old boy drowned in a river in Tuy town in Batangas province on Tuesday, Oct. 29, police said Wednesday.

The Region 4A police said the victim, identified as Justine Villas, left their house around 9 a.m. in Barangay Lumbangan and went to the river to pick up some firewood.

After an hour, when the boy did not return, his family members searched and found him dead, his body submerged in the river.

The mother of the victim told investigators that her son was epileptic and probably had a seizure attack when he fell into the water and drowned.

Police are conducting further investigations.

The remains of the victim will be subjected to a post-mortem examination and autopsy to determine the cause of his death.

For now, police have recorded the case as a “drowning incident.”
