Makati reroutes traffic for 342nd anniv parade
Several roads in Makati City will be closed starting Friday to give way to a number of activities as the city celebrates its 342nd founding anniversary.
The city’s public safety department said motorists should avoid passing through Makati Avenue from Valdez Street to Kalayaan Avenue, which will be closed starting at 10 a.m. today until Sunday morning.
Also closed starting at 12 noon on Saturday are the stretch of Makati Avenue from J.P. Rizal to Jupiter Street; Valdez Street from J.P. Rizal to Burgos Street; Nicanor Garcia (formerly Reposo) from J.P. Rizal to Jupiter; Jupiter from N. Garcia to Makati Avenue; and Burgos from Anza Street to J.P. Rizal.
These roads will be closed since they will be used for the Sampiro de Makati Festival, which will feature a street dance competition that expects about 2,000 participants from 33 barangays.
Public utility jeepneys coming from PRC going to Guadalupe will be diverted to Kalayaan, where they have to turn left to Pililia, right to Osmeña, then to Bonifacio to get to their destination.
Jeepneys coming from Guadalupe going to PRC or Taft Avenue will have to pass through J.P. Rizal, turn right to E. Zobel, and then left to Osmeña.
Private motorists coming from Mandaluyong City are advised to take J.P. Rizal and follow the rerouting schedule, while those coming from the central business district are advised to take Gil Puyat (formerly Buendia) Avenue. Nathaniel R. Melican
2 nabbed for killing mom, daughter
The Caloocan City police Thursday said they have arrested two suspects in the robbery that led to the killing of a mother and her daughter on May 12.
Substation 5 commander Chief Inspector Ronald Tolentino Perilla said Mark Padua, 38, and Randy Daya, 33, were arrested at their house in Palmera Spring 2 at around 5 p.m. on Thursday.
The arrests were made based on an eyewitness account purportedly placing the two men at the house of the victims—Faith Jaena, 50, and her daughter Tessa, 15—just before the killing. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
