MANILA, Philippines — Classes were suspended in various parts of the country on Tuesday, October 29, because of bad weather spawned by Severe Tropical Storm Leon (international name: Kong-rey).

Based on the state weather bureau’s 5 a.m. bulletin, 21 Luzon and two Visayas areas were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as Leon slightly intensified Tuesday morning. The severe tropical storm is forecast to reach the typhoon category within the next several hours.
