Sunken tugboat in Iloilo lifted up

A tugboat owned by International Builders Corporation sank off Muelle Loney, Iloilo City on Sunday morning, Oct. 27. — IAN PAUL CORDERO / INQUIRER VISAYAS

ILOILO CITY — A tugboat that sank near Muelle Loney in this city was recovered on Sunday, Oct. 27.

The International Builders Corporation (IBC) used a crane to lift the tugboat with the help of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Philippine National Police.

A spill boom was also set around the tugboat to avoid polluting the Iloilo River.

The tugboat, owned by IBC, sank past 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27.

In an interview, Ronnie Villa Carlos, the boat captain, said he was about to drink coffee on Sunday morning when he suddenly felt that the tugboat was sinking.

Villa Carlos has yet to point out what caused the boat to sink.

The PCG-Iloilo and the Maritime Industry Authority are investigating the incident.
