Western part of Southern Luzon, Visayas to have cloudy skies, rain

MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies, scattered rainshowers are expected over the western part of Southern Luzon and Visayas due to the southwesterly wind flow, the weather bureau said on Saturday.

“We have cloud clusters called southwesterly wind flow that are affecting the western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas,” said weather specialist Chenel Dominguez in a mix of Filipino and English during the 4 p.m. weather forecast.

“Because of this, expect cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers in Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula,” Dominguez said in a mix of Filipino and English.

Dominguez said that as the Philippines is situated in the middle of Typhoon Kristine and Tropical Storm Kong-rey (domestic name: Leon) outside the Philippine area of responsibility, the northern part of Luzon will experience fair weather.

Further, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience fair weather on Sunday.

“Asahan po natin na makakaranas din ng maaliwalas na panahon pero asahan din natin ang mainit at maalinsangan na tanghali hanggang hapon na mataas ang tyansa ng pag-ulan sa hapon at sa gabi dulot ng localized thunderstorm,” Dominguez added.

(Expect fair weather but also expect humid weather from midday to afternoon with high chances of rain in the afternoon and evening due to localized thunderstorm.)

Dominguez also noted Luzon, the Rest of Visayas and Mindanao will experience fair weather on Sunday. Rainshowers brought by the southwesterly wind flow will prevail over Palawan, western section of Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 11 a.m. bulletin on Saturday that Tropical Storm Kong-rey accelerated and maintained its strength.

It is forecast to enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
