Sea travel resumes in parts of Sorsogon

SANTA MAGDALENA, Sorsogon — Sea travel has resumed in certain areas of the province, though restrictions remain in place for regions still under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.

As of 5 a.m. advisory on Friday (Oct. 25), the Sorsogon Coast Guard station lifted the suspension of trips, allowing 2,273 passengers and 608 rolling cargoes at Matnog port to set sail.

But in the northern and central areas of Sorsogon, passenger and cargo vessels, as well as mini bulk carriers, are still prohibited from sailing.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has not yet lifted the tropical cyclone signal in these regions.

The areas still affected include Castilla, Magallanes, Pilar, Casiguran, Donsol, Juban, Gubat, Prieto Diaz, Bulan and Sorsogon City.

A report from Coast Guard District Bicol on Thursday indicated that 425 passengers and 28 rolling cargoes remain stranded at Pilar port, while three passengers are stuck at Bulan port.
