MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami) maintained its strength as it swirled over the waters waters of Aurora, while Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 is up over Metro Manila and 30 other areas in Luzon, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its 2:00 p.m. bulletin, likewise warned of heavy rainfall in many parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

The state weather bureau likewise warned of possible storm surges and rough seas in parts of Northern, Central and Southern Luzon and the Bicol region.

Storm surge, rough sea alerts

Meanwhile, Pagasa warned of possible storm surges in low-lying coastal communities in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Cagayan, Isabela, Zambales, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes in the next 48 hours. 

A gale warning was likewise raised over the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.

Pagasa warned that “[s]ea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels.”

Tracking Kristine

Pagasa said that Kristine is forecast to develop into a severe tropical storm before making a landfall over Isabela on Wednesday night or Thursday early morning.

It was last located 155 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, moving northwest at 10 kilometers per hour (kph) and packing a maximum wind speed of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.
