LUCENA CITY — A young boy and a woman drowned in separate incidents in Quezon province on Tuesday (Oct. 22) as Tropical Storm “Kristine” dumped heavy rains over most parts of Luzon, police reported.

According to Quezon police, 1-year-and-8-month-old “Matheo” was sleeping beside his mother in their home in San Andres town around 11:45 a.m. when the boy got up, wandered outside, and accidentally fell into an open canal, where he was carried away by rushing water.

Relatives found him in a nearby creek and rushed him to the municipal clinic, but he was declared dead from drowning.

In a separate incident in Tagkawayan town, 56-year-old “Yolanda” and her husband were crossing a cemented bridge in Barangay Colong-Colong around 6 p.m. when they slipped and fell into the river below. Her husband managed to swim to safety, but Yolanda was swept away by the strong current.

She was found by rescuers but died while being taken to the hospital. INQ
