MANILA, Philippines — Work at the Senate has been suspended partially in view of the bad weather caused by tropical storm Kristine, but the chamber’s hearing on Apollo Quboloy’s alleged crimes will push through.
Senate Secretary Renato Bantug announced the matter in an advisory sent to the media on Wednesday.
“In view of the poor weather conditions caused by Tropical Storm Kristine, Senate President Francis Escudero has ordered the partial suspension of work at the Senate today, October 23, 2024,” the advisory reads.
“In view of the committee hearings that have been previously scheduled for today, the Senate President has instructed that Secretariat officers and employees whose services are essential and necessary for the conduct of the said hearings are required to report for work today,” it adds.
The document also indicated that heads of the Senate Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and other relevant offices were directed to ensure the presence of personnel that shall assist in the hearings.
“Those required to report for work shall be entitled to compensatory time off,” the document states.
Bantug, for his part, said those required to report for work shall be entitled to compensatory time off.
“All other Secretariat employees need not report for work. Senate Proper employees may or may not be required to report for work at the discretion of their respective principals,” the document further adds.
It will be the first time that Quiboloy would attend a congressional hearing on his “ill-deeds,” should he personally appear before the upper chamber on Wednesday.
Self-appointed son of God Quiboloy was arrested by authorities on September 8.
Among the allegations that Quiboloy is facing include large-scale human trafficking and rape of the members of his church Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
