Manila Water Foundation and partners underscore benefits of handwashing
MANILA, Philippines – Manila Water Foundation, the social development arm of Manila Water Company, recently led two onsite events to celebrate Global Handwashing Day (GHD). The first event was an anticipated celebration in San Juan City and on GHD itself, an event was held at the La Mesa Ecopark in Quezon City.
In San Juan City, MWF was hosted by San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, the San Juan City Council, and San Juan City Representative Bel Zamora.
During the Monday flag ceremony at the San Juan City Hall, Manila Water Foundation and P&G Safeguard handed over donations to the City Health Department. MWF donated three WASHup! Handwashing Stations while P&G Safeguard donated boxes of liquid hand soap for the city’s health programs.

A SAFEWASH in Families and Communities health talk was also held for barangay health workers to continue to champion hand hygiene in their families and in their city.
Article continues after this advertisementOn Global Handwashing Day itself, Manila Water Foundation and PHILUSA Corporation, held an event at the La Mesa Ecopark in Quezon City. Barangay Urban Farmers, Solid Waste Management Workers and TODA members of Barangay Greater Lagro and Barangay Fairview were the guests of the Global Handwashing Day celebration. Quezon City 5th District Representative Patrick Michael Vargas was also in attendance to laud the commitment of the barangay workers in the upkeep of the district and to remind everyone on the health habit of proper hand washing.
Article continues after this advertisementBefore the GHD event, PHILUSA Corporation, led by its President and General Manager Neogin Evangelista, started the day with a tree planting activity at the Ecopark, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the environment. Manila Water Foundation for its part, reminded the community members of the critical times of handwashing and 7 Steps to Proper Handwashing.
Manila Water Foundation also celebrated Global Handwashing Day with Early Childhood Care and Development Center learners, in partnership with the Quezon City Health Department. Reaching out to the regions, MWF organized Global Handwashing Day events in partnership with Boracay Water, Laguna Water and Tagum Water in Davao del Norte.
Celebrated every October 15, Global Handwashing Day is a advocacy day observed worldwide, dedicated to increase awareness on the importance of handwashing with soap and water as an easy, effective and affordable way to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and save lives. Aimed at schools and communities to support community health and well-being, Manila Water Foundation remains committed to lead campaigns for this celebration in its program, Health in Our Hands.
