MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said 3,418 passengers, truck drivers, and cargo helpers were stranded at 34 ports in Luzon and Visayas as of Tuesday morning due to the effects of Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).
Of the total, 162 individuals were stranded in various Southern Tagalog ports, 1,229 in Bicol, and 2,027 in Eastern Visayas, according to a PCG report based on information gathered from midnight to 4 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22.
Earlier, the Office of Civil Defense warned that Kristine may affect 18,000 villages or about 30 million individuals nationwide.

Kristine intensified into a tropical storm early Tuesday morning, prompting the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration to raise Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over 24 areas nationwide.
It was last located 390 km east of Virac, Catanduanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It was moving westward at 15 kph.
