LEGAZPI CITY — Classes in some provinces in the Bicol region were suspended on Monday, Oct. 21, due to the trough of Tropical Depression Kristine.
In Camarines Norte, Gov. Ricarte Padilla said classes at all levels in private and public schools were suspended due to heavy rainfall that may cause flooding in high-risk areas.
The local disaster officials were advised to monitor the situations in their areas.
In Camarines Sur, Gov. Vincenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte issued Sunday an advisory suspending classes at all levels in public and private schools as Kristine was expected to bring heavy rainfall.
In Albay, classes at all levels in private and public schools were also suspended in Camalig, Pio Duran, Guinobatan, Polangui, Libon, and Sto. Domingo towns. In-person classes in Legazpi City were shifted to alternative modes.
In Catanduanes, classes in prekindergarten to Grade 12 were automatically suspended after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 in the province and the northeastern portion of Northern Samar (Laoang, Palapag, Mapanas, Gamay, Catubig, Lapinig) and the northeastern portion of Eastern Samar (Jipapad, Arteche, San Policarpo, Oras).
Pagasa said Kristine was located 1,050 kilometers (km) east of southeastern Luzon with sustained winds of 55 km per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
At 5 a.m., Pagasa Southern Luzon issued a rainfall advisory in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, and Marinduque. INQ
