MANILA, Philippines — Sorsogon bishop emeritus Arturo Bastes died on Sunday morning, according to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
The CBCP News said Bastes passed away at 6:30 a.m. No other details were revealed.
Bastes was born on April 1, 1944, in Loboc, Bohol.
According to the Union of Catholic Asian News, Bastes was ordained a priest of the Society of the Divine Word in November 1970.
He was appointed as Romblon’s bishop in July 1997 and later served as the bishop of Sorsogon in April 2003.
He also served as CBCP regional representative of South Luzon, and a member of the Episcopal Commission on Biblical Apostolate and the Episcopal Commission on Liturgy.
