Go files resolution on Senate probe into war on drugs

A resolution seeking to investigate former president Rorigo Duterte’s brutal and deadly drug campaign was filed in the upper chamber on Thursday.

The measure — Senate Resolution No. 1217 — was filed by Duterte’s close friend Sen. Bong Go who earlier noted that conducting a probe parallel to that ongoing investigation of the House of Representatives’ quad committee would help disclose the real goal of the drug campaign.

No one will be spared from the government’s investigation into the unresolved cases of extra-judicial killings (EJKs), not even former President Rodrigo Duterte, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Thursday.

Remulla met with the heads of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), retired Judge Jaime Santiago and chief of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III to discuss the reopening of cold cases of EJKs.

OVP hits House panel over probe into fund use, budget: It’s unnecessary

The House of Representatives’ committee on good government and public accountability’s probe into the budget and fund utilization of the Office of the Vice President “is unnecessary” since “it does not satisfy the requirement enshrined in the Constitution” on inquiries in aid of legislation, the OVP pointed out on Thursday.

Although the OVP said it recognizes the power of the lower chamber to conduct an investigation “in aid of legislation,” it pointed out that the ongoing probe, which stemmed from the privilege speech of  Manila 2nd District Rep.Rolando Valeriano last September 3 and the motu proprio inquiry based on the manifestation of  Batangas 2nd District Rep. Gerville Luistro “lacks clear legislative objectives or contemplated legislation that is expected as an outcome of the deliberations.”

Court junks Quiboloy’s hospital arrest appeal

The Pasig City Regional Trial Court has denied the request of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) founder Apollo C. Quiboloy for hospital arrest.

Quiboloy, in his petition filed last month, told the court he has an existing medical condition that would warrant a stay in a hospital for monitoring pending trial for qualified human trafficking.
