Labor leader wants Quiboloy out of senatorial race

/ 05:10 AM October 18, 2024

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has received a petition to disqualify detained self-appointed “Son of God” and televangelist Apollo Quiboloy for misrepresenting himself as a senatorial candidate under the Workers’ and Peasants’ Party (WPP). The complainant, labor leader Sonny Matula, who is also running for senator under the WPP, said that the person who signed Quiboloy’s nomination papers was not a legitimate party official. Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia said the poll body would study the case but added that based on jurisprudence, even if Quiboloy is found out to have misrepresented his political party, he could still be allowed to run as an independent candidate. —JEROME ANING
