Bicol festivals wow crowds in Sorsogon’s ‘Kasanggayahan’
SORSOGON CITY, Philippines — Amid the scorching heat, CJ Leijen, 61, joined the crowd in this provincial capital of Sorsogon on Tuesday as Bicol’s top festivals were showcased at Kasanggayahan Festival’s “Regional Festival of Festivals” competition.
Leijen, who was originally from the Netherlands but chose to live here, said it was his fourth time watching the festival, but he still felt the same thrill and excitement.
“It’s very nice. I like the culture, the different colors, and the effort people paid. And I admire them because it’s not easy with this temperature,” he said.
He said his first Kasanggayahan experience was 24 years ago, which was one of the reasons he returned to Sorsogon and stayed for good.
Living here for three years now, he said he enjoyed the lively and enduring tradition.
