QC acquires electric buses for its free transportation services – Belmonte
MANILA, Philippines — As part of its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent in 2030, the Quezon City government has procured eight electric buses to complement its fleet of QCity Buses.
The modern electric buses have a 41-seating capacity with ample space to accommodate standing passengers. These are also equipped with wheelchair ramps to support the mobility of persons with disability.
To ensure the safety of passengers, each unit includes handrails, fire suppression and emergency equipment, CCTV cameras, and smart televisions.
The project is being implemented in compliance with Republic Act No. 11697 otherwise known as the “Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act or EVIDA Law.” The law states that at least 5 percent of government fleets, whether owned or leased, shall comprise electric vehicles.
The electrification of the city’s service vehicles is meant to reduce dependence on the conventional Internal Combustion Engine, which contributes up to 25 percent of black carbon emissions in the transportation sector.

The initiative is likewise aligned with the Enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plan of Quezon City 2021-2050.
Earlier in 2024, the local government installed solar panels on three of its buildings in the city hall complex. It plans to add more solar panels in city-owned buildings, schools, and hospitals to pursue its commitment to clean and renewable energy.
